Steampunk Ray Gun: test render

Image
I finally finished the ray gun and here's a test render and some wires. The surfacing is getting there but it's just the beginning :)

Steampunk Ray Gun: Wip

Image
I just had to attempt this cool steampunk ray gun as soon as I saw it. Hopefully, it'll be completed very soon :)

Subdivision Basics: part1

Image
Here's is a little tutorial on the basics of creating holes and cylinders from existing mesh, most of which you should already know :) Basics: When all the polygons are nice and square, you can get away with creating basic holes or beveling them into cylinders etc. What if you what to move on to the next level of complexity. Visual Method: The visual method is easy, just select the four points as shown and roughly stretch them out until it looks like a decent circle, then just continue on as usual. It won't be perfect all the time but it'll do when precision is not required. Precision Method: This is an extension of the last method. Here we create an 8 sided disc, the same distance in the X and Z axes. This will be our template, we will be welding points from the base mesh to the points of the disc, doing away with guess work. This is fine if we are just creating one or two holes but what if you need to do a row of holes. Octagon Method: Well then, you come to the rig...

70's Platform Shoe

Image
Here's another object I managed to model for the 70's challenge. This one took 67 minutes to model but I had to redo major parts of the shoe. I saved most of the stages that it went through, so expect a step by step mini tutorial soon.

Mr. Bump

Image
There was another cool modelling challenge this past week, the topic was the 1970's. I just had to model one of the Mr. Men characters. Mr. Bump was crying to be modeled and I managed to finish him in just under the sixty minute deadline. It was such a blast that I might do a few more in the new future.

Cap'n Crunch

Image
Introducing Cap'n Crunch, one of the mascots from Quaker Oats Company. I just had to model him as soon as saw him.

Buzz...Buzz....BuzzBee

Image
This is Cheerios BuzzBee character if you didn't know already :) Modeled awhile back but surfaces updated in Lightwave 9.6.

Tin Toy Party

Image
Here's an updated version with all the tin toys together. It took a few weeks to get the texture of the sofa but I might still add a few more items to the scene.

Tin Flute Player

Image
He plays the flute and thinks he's the coolest member of the marching band, but everyone else knows better. His ego is larger then his head, twice the size in fact and the other band members like to play tricks on him as a result. He never learns and he thinks they do what they do because they are jealous of his cool hair :)
